Dishes for Dinner

First recipe: Simple Dal

Here are Ingredients:


1/2 cup Masoor Dal
1 Tomato (Tamatar)
1/2 tsp Jeera
1/4 tsp Turmeric (Haldi) Powder
2 Green chilli
3 tsp Oil
1 level tsp Salt (Namak)
3 Garlic (Lasun) Cloves

Where to get Masoor Dal?

Indian groccery store- if you reside Outside India

Now to make simple dal:
1. Boil the dal with salt, turmeric powder and slit green chillies.
2. In another pan, heat oil, add the jeera, tomatoes and garlic pods, saute on a high flame till the tomatoes are soft and pulpy.

3.Add the boiled dal into this with little water, boil well for 15 minutes to incorporate the masala into the dal, garnish with coriander.

Palak Rice



What we need :

Palak - 1 bunch
Rice - 1 cup
Cloves - 2 no
Cardamom - 1 no
Cinnamon - 1 medium size
Tomato - 1 no large size
Onion - 1 no
Green Chillies - 2 no or as per to your taste
Garlic - 4 cloves
Chili powder - 1/2 spn
Garam Masala - 1/2 spn

Salt to your taste



How To Do :



Cook rice with cloves, cardamom, cinnamon and keep it a side.Make tomato paste and keep it a side.
Fry the chopped palak, garlic cloves, green chilies for 5 min and make it a paste, just fry them till palak is soft.

In a pan fry nicely chopped onions,add turmeric powder,add tomato paste until oil separates.
Add palak paste, fry for 3minutes and add chili powder, garam masala, salt and fry until oil separates.

Now add cooked rice to this finely made spinach paste.


Green Pepper Rice or capcicum: My Wife's dish



What we need :

Capsicum - 3- 6 no Medium size
Rice - 1 cup
Mustard seeds - 1/4 tspn
Urad dal - 1 tspn
Coriander seeds - 1 tspn
Cinnamon - 1
Red chillies - 4

Groud Nuts - 1/4 cup
Garam Masala Powder - 1/2 spn
Curry Leaves

Salt to your taste

How To Do :

Cook rice and keep it a side. Fry mustard seeds in a pan with 2 spoon oillet them splutter, add urad dal, coriander seeds, cinnamon , curry leaves, red chillies. Fry groundnuts seperately without oil and peel off the layer.

Grind these fried ingredients with salt and garam masala.In the same pan heat 2spn oil add mustard seeds and fry till they splutter, add curry leaves, chopped capsicum and fry till capsicum becomes soft.

Add prepared mixture to fried capsicum and cooked rice to this.


Coconut Fried Rice
What we need :

1 Coconut Milk
2 cups of Rice
5 Cardamom
4 Cloves
4 Green Chilies
1/4tsp of Turmeric powder
1/2bunch Cilantro
some Cashew nuts( optinal)

Salt to taste

How to do :

Soak the rice for 20minutes.


Now in a pan keep some oil/ ghee ( to your taste) and fry cardamom, cloves, green chillies at last turmeric powder.

In this add 2cups of coconut milk and 2cups of water add salt to your taste and let it boil

Note: YOu can make coconut milk by addidng water to coconut milk you have purchased. The Cannned coconut milk is real thick.

Add the soaked rice to this pan and let it cook with a lid over this.
On the other side fry the cashew nuts in ghee.

Ones rice is cooked add fried cashew nuts and chopped coriander leaves.

Serve hot with any raitha or Aloo kurma.

Green Peas masala
What we need??

1. Fresh Green peas - 1 cup
2. Onion - 2 (Finely chopped),
3. Tomato - 1 (Finely chopped),
4. Green Chilly - 1 (split lengthwise),
5. Fennel seeds - 2 tsp ( in which 1tsp crushed),
6. Grated coconut - 1/4 cup,
7. Turmeric powder – 1- 1 1/2 tsp,
8. Red chili powder - 3 tsp,
9. Garam masala powder - 1 tsp,
10. Coriander powder - 2 tsp,
11. Curry leaves – 1 stig, ( karve paku)
12. Salt - as per taste,
13. Oil - for frying.


How to do Green Peas Masala
1. Boil & cook the green peas in water with pinch of salt and drain.
2. Grind the grated coconut with 1 tsp fennel seeds in to fine paste and keep aside. (If you are using ready-made coconut paste, use fennel seeds while seasoning alone.)
3. Heat oil in pan, add the crushed fennel seeds, let them turn light brown, now add the onions, green chill, curry leaves and saute till transparent and add the tomatoes and saute till they are cooked to mash.
5. Now add the turmeric powder, red chill powder, coriander powder, garam masala, salt and saute till the masala's raw smell goes. Add the coconut paste and saute for 2mins.
7. Add water for the curry and bring to boil.
8. When curry is half thick add the cooked peas and saute adding oil till dry
